After signing nuclear deal JCPOA with US and other members, Iran was performing well economically. However as Trump entered US president office, he came out from Nuclear deal with Iran and put sanctions on it. At that time Iranian leaders were not much worried as it seemed by their words in public.
However, After the arrival of COVID-19 pandemic in Iran they are helpless now. Iran is mainly dependent on its huge oil resources. However with imposed sanctions of US no one apart from China is willing to buy oil from them. Even India has stopped buying oil because of US pressure of rataliations. This has led to decrease their income and hence has affected the country worse. COVID-19 pandemic has also shocked their economy. The deaths are high and cases are exponentially increasing.
Iranian President Hasan Rouhani has urged international organisations and other countries to help them. Also they have urged US to lift sanctions on humanitarian ground. But Businessman turned Politician Trump has clearly specified their views on sanctions continuation. These sanctions have also put other international organisations in dilemma to support Iran. They know if they helped Iran they will have to bear consequences from US.
No doubt China is still buying oil from them through Barter system but as China was in lockdown from past 4-5 months their demand of oil had sharply decreased. China is emerging as a new global power and can overcome US also. China is the only country which can help Iran in these pandemic situation.
However, Other countries should not sit silent. It is the need of hour to have cooperative agenda to fight for this pandemic situation. We cannot leave any country atleast on humanitarian ground.
